Mar 2026 - Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, marks the Saka New Year and is a time for reflection, renewal, and balance. The day before this is Pengrupukan, where communities in banjars across Bali have lively celebrations in which they parade their Ogoh-Ogoh creations that they have been making for months. These towering figures often take eerie and powerful forms, symbolizing negative energies from the underworld.

Crowds gather to witness each region’s magnificent creation, as it is also a ritual of cleansing before the island enters 24 hours of silence guided by the Catur Brata Penyepian: no fire or light, no work, no travel, and no entertainment.

In celebration of this tradition, our Waterbom team also came together to brainstorm and build a sustainable Ogoh-Ogoh, made from discarded and other natural materials that were successfully repurposed to bring the story to life. Our team’s amazing creation, “Ki Taru Bingin,” is a representation of a respected wise elder whose presence merges with the strength and spirit of the banyan tree, representing wisdom rooted in nature. It was crafted using recycled and repurposed materials, including cardboard, plastic bottles, copper wire, used paper, newspaper, metal, recycled coconut fiber, wood chips, and old banners.

After 3 months of preparation by our hardworking internal talented team (Wayan Suparta, Gus De, Eka Yana, and Sahrul), on 17 March just before Nyepi, the full Waterbom crew proudly carried this 500 kilogram figure along Kartika Plaza Road, followed by a special Balinese dance performance from our team, combining traditional and contemporary styles, reiterating the story of Ki Taru Bingin. Thank you to everyone who came to witness and celebrate this meaningful part of Balinese culture with us, and for sharing in our team’s energy and enthusiasm.

Mar 2026 - Waterbom & Friends returns on Saturday 11 April with a special 'Flavors Bali Edition' - kicking it old school with masters of the craft, DJ Spinna and Kool DJ Red Alert, joining us from the USA!

DJ Spinna is a globally respected selector and producer known for his genre-blending sets and collaborations across hip-hop, soul, funk, and house. Kool DJ Red Alert is a legendary New York radio DJ and hip-hop trailblazer whose influence helped launch some of the biggest names in the scene.

Supported by local DJs Westside MuzeeQ and Mikey Moran, you can expect a night of classic tracks, epic dance floor energy, great food and tropical cocktails - all served up poolside! Plus style your outfit at our free Botanical Salon, and snap a memory in the photobooth while you are there. It's a vibe!

Feb 2026 – Chinese New Year was celebrated with colour and energy at Waterbom this year. On Tuesday, 17 February, a Barongsai performance moved through the park as guests gathered to watch the lively lion dance, accompanied by the dramatic sounds of beating drums.

Barongsai performances are traditionally believed to bring good luck and positive energy for the year ahead, making it a meaningful way to mark the Lunar New Year celebrations. The dancers brought a great atmosphere and energy and stopped to pose for photos with guests along the way.

A nice cultural moment to share with everyone visiting the park.

Jan 2026 - We’re incredibly grateful to share that Waterbom Bali has been awarded the Tri Hita Karana (THK) Lifetime Achievement Award 2025, a recognition that honours destinations demonstrating a long-term commitment to sustainable tourism and the Balinese philosophy of harmony.

Presented by Yayasan Tri Hita Karana, the Lifetime Achievement Award recognises just 14 hotels and tourism destinations that have consistently participated in the THK Tourism Awards program since the year 2000. It celebrates dedication over decades, not one-time achievements, and to be included among this small group is a true honour for us.

We’ve been part of the Tri Hita Karana Tourism Awards since our early years, first receiving Silver recognition prior to 2010. Over time, we progressed through Gold, Emerald, Platinum and Super Platinum levels. After returning post-pandemic, we were awarded Super Platinum IV in 2024, and in 2025, received the Lifetime Achievement Award - a milestone that reflects more than two decades of learning, commitment, and steady progress.

For us, the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, of harmony between people (pawongan), nature (palemahan), and the spiritual realm (parahyangan), has guided our values and how we operate every day. From water conservation and environmental initiatives to community engagement and cultural respect, our goal has always been to create joyful guest experiences while caring deeply for the island we call home.

This recognition means a great deal to our team, and especially to our leadership team. It reflects values that are close to our CEO Sayan’s heart and reinforces why being part of the Tri Hita Karana program matters so much to Waterbom Bali.

We receive this honour with gratitude and humility, and we remain committed to learning, improving, and contributing positively to Bali’s tourism future for many years to come.

Dec 2025 -  Every year, we like to bring a little festive spirit into the park — always with intention. This year, that meant supporting local craftsmanship, staying connected to our roots, and creating something sustainable that can return gently to the earth afterwards.

At the front of the park you will see our beautiful Balinese-inspired Christmas Tree, handcrafted using natural materials and traditional techniques. The tree is made from klangsah, woven from coconut leaves. In Balinese culture, klangsah holds deep cultural significance. The craft of braiding it isn’t taught in classrooms; it’s passed down through generations. Children learn by watching their elders, absorbing the patience and precision needed to shape each braid into something meaningful.

To honour this living tradition, we teamed up with a local artisan group in Gianyar to design and build our festive tree. The design draws inspiration from traditional lamak patterns used in Balinese Hindu ceremonies, symbolising the nobility of nature, and reflecting a deep respect for balance, craft, and the natural world.

Staying true to our sustainability principles, all materials used are natural and fully compostable. Once the festive season comes to a close, the tree will be returned to our onsite organic waste and compost area, allowing it to return naturally to the earth and leaving no waste behind.

A quiet nod to our ties to Balinese culture, local artistry, and our connection to nature.

Dec 2025 – What a way to wrap up the year with another award win for Waterbom Bali - ‘Sustainable Business of the Year’ at The Punch Sustainability Awards 2025! Our team are so grateful for all of the recognition.

As always, we were in great company in our category, with our environmental partners, Eco-Mantra and Desa Potato Head , also nominated. It’s a huge honour for Waterbom to take home the award again this year and stand alongside other industry powerhouses in the community.

After celebrating two wins at The Punch Awards last year in 2024, receiving this award in 2025 reinforces our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship through our Karmic Returns program. This includes our integrated waste management system, single-use plastic reduction, renewable energy optimisation, water conservation, and our broader efforts to embed circularity into everything we do.

Our continued progress is made possible through the guidance of our sustainability partners, Eco-Mantra, who help us shape our strategies and measure our impact, as well as our passionate internal Green Team, who bring these initiatives to life every day.

Nov 2025 – To mark Galungan and Kuningan, we brought a touch of Balinese tradition into the park with a Barong dance performance last week. Guests gathered to experience the energy of the Barong and appreciate the lively music and intricate costumes that make this one of Bali’s most recognised cultural expressions.

The performance added a festive feel to the park, giving guests a chance to enjoy a piece of local heritage and take a photo with the Barong dancers. The cheeky monkey character brought extra fun to the moment and quickly became a favourite with kids and guests nearby.

A simple way for us to connect culture with the park, and invite our guests to experience a little of the values and traditions we hold close.

Oct 2025 - This exclusive apparel range features original artwork by Balinese artist Eka Sudarma Putra (ESP) — inspired by the harmony between nature and play that defines Waterbom. Known for his bold black-and-white line work, Eka’s art draws from Bali’s culture and natural beauty, expressed through vibrant color and strong, flowing forms.

For the Waterbom x ESP 2025 collection, he’s created designs that capture the park’s movement and joy — a reflection of the energy and rhythm that connect art, water, and life at Waterbom.
The collection celebrates creativity rooted in Bali and the vibrant spirit of the park itself.

Eka’s work explores balance — a visual conversation between thick and thin lines, black and white tones, inspired by the philosophy of Yin and Yang. “I always start by understanding the brand’s character,” he explains. “Then I look for ways to reflect that spirit through design.”

In this collaboration, his patterns and shapes draw from the Balinese concept of Tri Hita Karana — the harmony between people, nature, and the spiritual world. It’s a philosophy which guides Waterbom’s own company values, so naturally aligns where fun and environmental care flow together in balance.

If he were to describe his art in three words, they’d be Harmony, Nature, and People - the same three elements that come together in this collaboration.

For Eka, sustainability and art naturally go hand in hand; “Art and sustainability are closely connected because both speak about balance and awareness,” he said. “Through art, we can remind people of our relationship with nature and our responsibility to protect it.”

This collection is a celebration of creativity, consciousness, and connection — values shared by both Waterbom and Eka as we aim to protect this little island we call home.

Known for handcrafting cookies that are chewy on the inside and crisp on the outside, you can now enjoy their signature flavors such as The OG, The Monster, and Scotch Bae, along with seasonal creations. Each cookie is freshly baked onsite offering a homemade taste for your afternoon sweet fix!

August 2025 - We introduce our Harmony Collection. Created by our team. Inspired by our park and our philosophies.
When we asked our Waterbom team to form groups and express what Harmony means to them, through mural art painted along the back lane of the park. They created vibrant and thoughtful artworks which we then reimagined into a retail collection inspired by each original artwork and theme. From tees, shirts, board shorts and bucket hats, each piece is a tribute to the people who keep our park in motion.  

From lifeguards and gardeners to guest experience and engineering team members — our staff designed a series of designs based on unity, balance, nature, and joy — the essence of the Waterbom spirit.

There were 4 groups and their murals and stories behind their artworks are below:

August 2025 - Our Waterbom & Friends event returned to our Oasis Gardens area of the park on Saturday 5 July, with a laid-back afternoon that eased into an energetic night of music, good company, and tropical vibes.

Kicking off from 4PM, (our CEO) Sayan warmed up the crowd with some chilled beats as guests arrived, grabbed drinks, and settled in by the pool. From there, as the sun started setting, the turntable masters took over! Both artists brought their own flavour to the decks—the legendary DJ Shortkut (US)  mixed deep cuts with slick scratches, featuring a bit of everything from the smooth Bay Area blend of hip hop, soul, and groove. This was followed by three-time DMC World Champion,DJ Craze’s high-energy closing set with his signature, genre-bending style—flipping between bass-heavy drops, and sharp turntable tricks that kept the party going (and the crowd dancing) late into the night.

Alongside the music, guests enjoyed sipping on botanical cocktails, BBQ bites, and flower-powered style upgrades and facepainting at our Botanical Salon. The Lagoon pool and slides stayed open until 7PM, setting the tone for a playful, sunset session in the heart of the park. Oasis Gardens came alive with our community, some familiar faces, and some first-timers soaking up the music and poolside atmosphere. This event felt like a backyard hang with your friends - which is exactly the vibe we’re going for.

Big thanks to everyone who came down and helped make it such a great night. We’re already planning the next Waterbom & Friends in the coming months and can’t wait to see you back at the park soon.

July 2025 - Zuluu Hill is the latest addition to Waterbom Bali’s Kids Area — a tropical, multi-level mini mountain with 6 slide options and designed for young adventurers to explore and gain their sliding confidence!

With six slides across two levels, it’s perfect for mini adventurers ready to twist, race, and splash their way down! Climb to the top of the hill and choose your thrill: Twister offers side-to-side swooshes through an open tube, while Racetrack lets kids race their friends on a triple-lane slippery dip with a splashy finish.

The journey continues from the first tier wading pool, with a choice of slides - The Ramp for a fast drop and splash, or the 3 slides of Jungle Ride wind and turn through the tropical gardens, all finishing in a safe, shallow splash pool.

Parents can cheer from the sidelines, join in on the fun and ride with their kids, or relax nearby under the shade of the big tree and watch the action.

Complementing the awesome line-up of adventures for kids at the park, alongside Waterbom’s AquaPlay water playground and the Mini Boomerang slide, Zuluu Hill encourages active, confidence-building play in an area made just for little ones.

The last stage in Waterbom’s almost 1 hectare upgrade is a grassed group area with 7 new gazebos perfect for Birthday and family gatherings and will be ready by end August 2025.

June 2025 – We’re excited to launch our new range with Indosole, a like-minded brand turning waste into eco-friendly gear. Our exclusive Waterbom-inspired flip-flops, T-shirts and caps are wearable statements of shared values: reducing waste and respecting our island.

Indosole’s story started right here in Bali, when a group of surfers on a trip to the island were struck by the amount of waste (especially tires) littering the environment. That moment sparked an idea: what if those discarded tires could be given a second life?

Every year, over 1.5 billion tires are discarded globally, with most ending up in landfills or being burned. In response, Indosole developed a unique process to grind down old tires into a fine powder, repurposing them into the soles of their signature flip-flops. Combined with 30 % natural rubber and 30 % new materials, the result is a durable, comfortable product made for good times—and good for the planet. Beyond flip-flops, Indosole has expanded into sustainably made clothing and accessories. Their entire production process is organic, toxic-free, and environmentally responsible—a perfect fit for Waterbom’s mission of conscious fun and sustainability.

June 2025 - FlowShow Fridays returns this June & July - come watch the team show off their skills on the wave!

Starting Friday 27 June, Waterbom is turning up the excitement with the return of FlowShow Fridays – a fun weekly activation that allows our FlowRider team to entertain the crowd with their trick show and have a lot of fun while doing it! This year we are adding in a Beer Pong Battle (Supported by Island Brewing) and a chance to win some prizes and enjoy Happy Hour promotions at Sliders Bar & Grill.

Running every Friday from 12PM to 4PM until July 18th, guests can expect:

— FlowRider trick shows from our pro rider team (12PM & 2PM sessions)
— Beer Pong Battle with fun house rules and prizes

June 2025 - At Waterbom Bali, we’re proud to share the steps we’re taking towards our sustainability goals, starting with waste. 

As part of our mission to send zero waste to landfill, we process our own organic compost onsite to nourish our gardens and reduce environmental impact. And this month, we are excited to see our efforts have resulted in a new low of only 1.2% of our waste going to landfill, meaning we have been able to fully recycle and compost 98.8% of all our waste onsite from the park during January - March 2025. A super milestone for us!

- - Turning Waste into Life: How We Compost at Waterbom - -

Every day, we can generate up to 800kg of organic waste within the park, from fallen leaves and branches to food scraps. With clearly marked split bins for organic and non-organic waste, our guests help us sort rubbish at the source, reducing excess and making recycling more efficient. Collected organic waste is combined with garden trimmings and food scraps from our in-house restaurants. This mix is processed in our onsite composting facility, where it’s transformed into nutrient-rich compost over six months. The process is monitored daily by our Green Team, who track temperatures and rely on the help of beneficial microbes, worms, and fungi to do the work.

This compost is then used across the park’s gardens, keeping our plants healthy and thriving, all without chemical fertilizers.

We also produce eco enzymes: a natural liquid fertilizer made by fermenting fruit scraps, water, and brown sugar. After six months, it becomes a powerful soil booster that nourishes our landscape even further.
By composting instead of sending food waste to landfill, we reduce methane emissions, a major contributor to climate change.

Small actions, big impact. That’s how we care for our park, our guests, and our planet.

April 2025 - This week at Waterbom, we brought a touch of local culture into the park to celebrate the spirit of Galungan. From the soothing sounds of Rindik melodies to traditional offerings and Balinese dance, thank you for joining us in honouring this special time on the island.

This month, the Balinese Hindu community celebrates two of its most significant festivals: Galungan and Kuningan. Galungan marks the victory of Dharma (good) over Adharma (evil) and is a deeply spiritual time when ancestral spirits are believed to return to visit their families. Homes across Bali are beautifully decorated with penjors – tall bamboo poles adorned with offerings – as families prepare to welcome their ancestors with prayers and ceremony.

We shared the spirit of Galungan with our park guests by offering a few unique cultural experiences in the park:

Here’s what we used:
- Guests were welcomed with the gentle sounds of Rindik, a traditional bamboo instrument played live by members of our talented Lifeguard, Pool Attendant, Landscape and Green team.
- Our Front Office staff led Canang Sari and Gebogan making demonstrations, where guests could try their hand at creating these meaningful offerings.
- We also shared a sweet taste of Balinese tradition with samples of local favourites like Klepon and Tape – met with smiles and curiousity from guests!
- And also a traditional Balinese dance performance gave sliders a glimpse into the island’s rich ceremonial heritage.

March 2025 - Nyepi is preceded by a parade of Ogoh-ogoh - intricately crafted creatures designed to drive away negative energy before the island enters a day of silence and reflection. In just 5 weeks, four talented members of our Waterbom team transformed old waterpark materials and other elements into our very own Ogoh-ogoh.

THE INSPIRATION: TIRTA AMERTHA

Our Ogoh-Ogoh creation is inspired by the ancient story of Tirta Amertha, about the sacred water of life, hidden deep beneath the ocean. It features Akupa, the sacred turtle that steadied Mount Mandara while the gods and demons churned the sea to reveal the water, and Dewi Dewantari, the goddess who carried the vessel of Tirta Amertha. Their story symbolizes unity, perseverance, and the life-giving power of water—an element deeply tied to Waterbom.

THE MAKING OF OUR OGOH-OGOH

Following our sustainability vision and inpark programs, our team attempted to use as many upcycled and repurposed materials as possible - to help keep our creation eco-friendly.

Here’s what we used:
- Exterior: Recycled office paper
- Interior structure: Old mats from Twin Racers slide
- Fins: Unused AquaPlay flooring
- Head scales: Coconut husks and shells from our restaurant
- Vessel: Repurposed plywood with retired blue pool towels
- Carvings: Handwoven banana tree sheaths
- Decorations: Damaged or old tubes and lounge chairs

Inspired by our iconic Boomerang slide, this mini but mighty adventure is specially designed for our younger riders. With a mini drop and wall climb, Mini Boomerang gives kids the perfect dose of adrenaline, making it an exciting warm-up for our bigger slides. It’s the ideal way for little thrill-seekers to level up their waterpark fun while staying within their comfort zone.

March 2025 - This month, we’re throwing a pop-up music event in our Oasis Gardens area at Waterbom - so bring your crew for a fun evening!

Tropical backdrop, sunset and great tunes - we’re rolling from golden hour into the night with Sayan on the decks followed by Nickodemus - spinning a slick mix of Afro-Latin, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean sounds, blended with house, disco, and hip-hop. Expect deep grooves, global beats, and good energy!

Beyond the music, sip on botanical cocktails, enjoy tasty bites from the poolside BBQ, or stop by our Botanical Salon for some festive floral additions to your face and hair to get into the spirit!

February 2025 - Waterbom Bali had the honor of welcoming Ibu Ni Luh Puspa, Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Tourism, on Thursday, February 13th, 2025. Her visit focused on learning more about our approach to waste management—one of the key ways we reduce our environmental footprint as part of our Karmic Returns in park program.

During the tour, Waterbom’s Green Team shared how we sort, process, and repurpose waste to keep landfill contributions as low as 5%. Some of the key practices include:

- Segregated Waste Bins: Sorting waste at the source to improve recycling and composting efficiency.
- Organic Waste Processing: Turning food scraps and plant trimmings into compost for the park’s gardens.
- Recycling and Repurposing: Finding new uses for inorganic waste to reduce environmental impact.

Waterbom’s commitment to sustainability is about taking consistent, practical steps toward a greener future. We believe that managing waste effectively is just one part of a bigger effort to promote responsible tourism and environmental stewardship.

Vice Minister Ni Luh Puspa emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and tourism stakeholders in building a more sustainable future for the industry.

"What Waterbom is doing is truly inspiring. Nothing goes to waste—organic and non-organic materials are processed within the park, and even solar panels are used to generate energy. This is the kind of initiative that more tourist destinations should adopt to ensure a cleaner, more sustainable future," stated Vice Minister Ni Luh Puspa.

January 2025 - This week, Waterbom Bali welcomed 20 students from local school SMP 2 Kuta for the kickoff of The Youth Punch Education Program. A new collaboration between The Punch Community and The Green School Foundation, this program connects local students with businesses in Bali that focus on sustainability, helping to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders.

The day started with a mini Seed of Thought (SOT), a hands-on workshop led by Waterbom’s Green Team. The students learned simple ways to care for the environment, discussed Bali’s current challenges like waste and pollution, and talked about how small steps can make a big difference.

After the workshop, the students participated in a guided Park Walkthrough to see how sustainability is implemented at Waterbom. The tour includes examples showing our:

Solar Panels: Providing renewable energy for parts of the park.
Waste Management: Segregated bins for sorting-at-source, recycling and reducing waste.
Composting Area: Turning organic waste into compost for the gardens.
Rainwater Harvesting: Collecting and reusing rainwater through recharge wells.
Repurposed Materials: The Sliders Bar & Grill was built using reclaimed wood from the old slide tower, and the Savannah Cafe features a water feature made from the old Superbowl slide.
Closed-Loop Water System: Recycling water to conserve resources, this system filters and circulates all of our water in the park.

This gave the students a chance to see how these efforts come together to make a real impact. After all that learning, it was time for some fun! The students enjoyed lunch before spending the afternoon enjoying the slides, ending the day with plenty of smiles and inspiration.

Kania Maniasa, Executive Director of Green School Foundation, explained why this program matters: "It’s about helping local kids understand why sustainability is so important and showing them how they can make a difference, even in small ways. We hope they take what they’ve learned and inspire others to protect Bali."

January 2025 - Art and culture are a big part of Bali, and we're always happy to play a role in keeping them alive!

Recently, we teamed up with local artists from Desa Keliki Kawan, led by I Nyoman Budikartika, to create a 16.5-metre mural on our street front wall. The mural celebrates Bali’s traditions and landscapes in the traditional Keliki Kawan style, which is unique to the village of Keliki Kawan, known for its intricate miniature-like details and cultural significance.

Under the leadership of I Nyoman Budikartika, known as Jero Mangku Budi, the team of 5 painters included skilled artists I Nyoman Wirawan, I Made Sedana, I Gusti Ngurah Redana, and I Ketut Meja. Together, they brought this custom piece to life, combining their dedication to preserving Balinese traditions with their artistic expertise.

The painting weaves together five key elements: the sun, earth, water, Tri Hita Karana (the Balinese philosophy of harmony), and Waterbom.

Each element flows seamlessly across five wooden panels spanning 16.5 meters, telling a story of connection and balance. From the natural curves of rivers representing water slides to lush greenery and gazebos reflecting Bali’s landscapes, the artwork captures the essence of both Bali and Waterbom.

Crafted in the signature Keliki Kawan style, the painting highlights intricate details that reflect the depth of Balinese culture. The teak wood canvas enhances the vibrant colors, making the piece a striking addition to Waterbom’s entrance while staying true to its traditional roots.

This collaboration is not just about art; it’s a way to preserve traditions and share the story of Bali with our visitors. For the artists, it’s an opportunity to showcase their craft and honor the heritage passed down through generations.

This mural is the team’s longest and most intricate work yet. You can see it at our entrance, welcoming visitors to experience Bali through art and tradition.

December 2024 - We are honored to be recognised with a Super Platinum IV award in the Tri Hita Karana (THK) Awards 2024.

At the core of our business culture, we aim to follow the Balinese Philosophy of Tri Hita Karana - which is founded in the principles of harmony with people, nature, and spirituality. This is our 5th year receiving this award which honours organizations that integrate environmental care, cultural preservation, and community well-being into their operations.

At Waterbom Bali, we aim to balance fun with operating responsibly and sustainably. Over half of our park is preserved as green space, providing a welcoming environment for guests and a habitat for local biodiversity. Our waste management policies, energy-saving measures, and water conservation initiatives reflect our ongoing effort to reduce our environmental impact as we strive toward Net Zero by 2033 and reducing our carbon footprint. We take our sustainable initiatives seriously in the park and we respect our island home of Bali.

Windu’s Green Team plays a key role in maintaining our Sustainability Initiatives in the park and leads our team to follow our Karmic Returns program.

December, 2024 – This festive season, our team created a 4-metre-tall Christmas tree, hand-crafted from over 500 recycled coconuts collected right here in the park. We gathered used coconuts from our restaurants, dried them in the sun, and creatively repurposed their husks and fibers to shape this installation.

Typically, these coconut shells are used in Waterbom’s onsite compost facility, which processes around 4,000 coconuts monthly. This year, these ones have found a second life as part of our festive display.

After the holidays, these coconuts will continue their journey, shredded to cover our organic compost and assist the process by keeping the materials warm, eliminating the need for plastic coverings.

This effort shows how much we care about reducing organic waste sent to landfill and reusing materials as we work towards our goal of reaching Net Zero by 2033.

December, 2024 – In November 2023, we said goodbye to the beloved Superbowl slide at Waterbom Bali to make room for the exciting Kids Area, AquaPlay. While the spins and turns of the Superbowl slide can be enjoyed in the new Tailspin at Oasis Gardens, its spirit lives on through a sustainable transformation!

In line with our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2033, we took great care in managing the slide's remaining fiberglass materials. Rather than letting them end up in a landfill, we repurposed them into features throughout the park.

The central funnel of the slide was re-purposed into a water feature which takes centre stage at our new Savannah Cafe (within our Kids Area) and we also used parts of the slide tubes and turned them into towel storage baskets.

Savannah Cafe embodies our eco-friendly ethos from its bamboo architecture, beautifully designed by Ibuku and built by Bamboopure, to its clever energy-saving strategies:
Natural Ventilation: The open-air design creates a refreshing air flow, while roof openings help dissipate heat.
Natural Lighting: The large, airy nature of the building allows sunlight during the day, minimizing our need for artificial lighting.
High-Performance Shading: TwinLite polycarbonate skylights let in light while reducing heat gain, optimizing energy efficiency.
Water Conservation: Low-flow taps and fixtures reduce water usage, and greywater is cleverly recycled for garden irrigation. Recycled fiberglass contributes to the cafe's closed-loop cooling feature.
Cooling Water Feature: The waterfall adds to the cafe's beauty and naturally cools the surrounding area, lowering the need for energy-intensive systems.
Closed-Loop Water System: The water used in the fountain is recycled, cleaned, and fed back into the system. This ensures visitors can confidently enjoy the feature, knowing the water is filtered and safe while conserving resources.

These thoughtful design choices reduce the cafe's carbon footprint while creating a vibrant space for our guests to enjoy. Each decision we make is with consideration toward our environment, and form part of our Sustainability Initiatives.

We also want to ensure the Superbowl's legacy lives on and continues to create joy in the park!

December, 2024 – We’re excited to share that Waterbom Bali proudly accepted two prestigious awards at The Punch Sustainability Awards in Ubud on 7 December 2024, which also happened to be our 31st anniversary on the same day! What a way to celebrate!

We were honored to take home the ‘Sustainable Business of the Year’ award, recognizing our commitment to environmental preservation through our Karmic Returns program, which includes our onsite waste management systems, initiatives for reducing single-use plastics, plus our focus on optimizing renewable energy and water conservation.

Concurrently, our CEO, Sayan Gulino, was recognized as ‘Impact Hero of the Year’ for his leadership in transforming Waterbom Bali into a sustainable business model which aims to benefit the environment and our local community. His passion for the environment and his love of nature is his driving force!

Of course we are grateful to our Sustainability Consultants, Eco-Mantra, who provide us with essential guidance and expertise to help us set and reach our sustainability goals as they work closely with our internal Green Team (shout out to Surya Windu, Syifa and Rahel!) to drive our initiatives every year.

The Punch Sustainability Awards is an industry event that honors those making a difference in sustainability across tourism and business in Bali. We’re grateful to be recognised within the community alongside some passionate businesses on the same path as us - Desa Potato Head, Terra Water, Eco-Mantra, and ChopValue.

November 2024 - During our recent Waterbom Weekender event last month, our Living Room stage was adorned with custom designed artwork by the talented and humble Balinese artist, Eka Sudarma Putra. Eka or ESP, is a celebrated Balinese artist, with a creative journey that began in childhood, inspired by the art around his school playground. Starting out as a graphic designer, Eka has mastered a range of media, from tattoo and apparel to large-scale installations. His style, a fusion of bold, contrasting lines, represents harmony and balance, celebrating life’s simple yet deep moments.

For our customised artwork canvas and hanging fabric interior pieces displayed at the event, Eka produced an interpretation of Waterbom, and he infused his artwork designs with the essence of Tri Hita Karana - the Balinese philosophy of harmony between God, humans, and nature—bringing a true reflection of Waterbom Bali’s spirit, as well as the joy of sliding!

September 2024 - Over the weekend of 21st & 22nd September, the park was transformed into a lively hub of music and fun, with local artists and international DJs bringing a mix of soul, reggae, hip hop, afrobeats and tropical house to set the mood.

Guests came and chilled out on bean bags in our Temple Lawn area, enjoyed the vibes, played Lawn Games, had their Tarot cards read, won merch at Beer Pong or got into the spirit with botanical hair pieces and face painting - before capturing the memories in the photobooth. There was also a fun dance performance by Lombok’s Miracle Dancers, and the boys were up to their usual tricks at FlowShow.

Thanks to all the artists and DJ’s who helped make it special and a special shout out to our event partners for supporting the event; Nusa Cana, East Indies, Kura Kura, Santai Seltzer, Isola Wines, Mamaka By Ovolo, M&M Catering and Caribbean Vybez.

NEW KIDS (AREA) ON THE BLOCK!

September 2024 - Stage 1 of our new Kids Area is now open, bringing even more fun for the whole family! From splash-filled adventures and a range of fun slides, let the little ones discover a mini world of excitement.

Let the kids run wild exploring our new AquaPlay water playground, with 5 new slides, splash zones and special play areas with soft flooring for the little ones, children of all ages will have an unforgettable experience!

Towering 15 meters high, kids can roam across multiple platforms and climbing decks to discover interactive features including water blasters, sprays, tipping bowls or hand and foot activated water jets. Plus, the iconic giant dump bucket sits at the top, ready to drench those below!

The new area also features relaxation zones with gazebos and sun loungers, perfect for parents to keep an eye on their kids while enjoying some downtime. And for a treat, head to Savannah Café, offering a delicious selection of dishes and snacks—from Western classics like pasta and pizza, and Asian favorite dishes like noodles, buns and rice, to those famous donuts and desserts!

Suitable for toddlers up to teens, with a maximum age limit of 16 years. Children under 6 years old must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.

August 2024 - This September, Waterbom Weekender brings together a lineup of international and local DJs and musicians, to create a 2-day carnival of fun, good vibes, and unique ways to experience the park!

Artist line-up includes Canadian DJ and turntable maestro Skratch Bastid, along with DJ Edu, the Kenyan-born producer and African Music Ambassador on BBC Radio 1Xtra. Check out the local talent too with performers including Mistral, GeneralRie, Krisna Floop, Sayan and the ever-entertaining The Hydrant - get ready to sweat! (plus more to be announced)

Ever wished you could listen to a soulful serenade of live music as you floated down the Lazy River? We can make that wish come true!

As well as great tunes, the weekend will have a bunch of fun activities throughout the park to enjoy for free. Get into a tropical mood with free botanical hair and face paint adornment salon; capture some memories in our fun photo booth, get involved in Beer Pong, Lawn Games or simply enjoy the BBQ food stalls, tropical cocktails and FlowShow!

We are so happy to announce that our 12-hour DJ marathon event, Tunes For Tails, was a big success! Thanks to your generous contributions, we raised over 24 million rupiah in donations from park guests and online supporters (and a big thank you to our CEO Sayan Gulino for making it to the last hour and keeping the energy high!).

These funds have allowed us to execute our planned sterilization and vaccination programs for local cats and dogs in the Kuta area. On July 2nd, we held our first sterilization day at The Backyard, our new event space. In collaboration with Bali Pet Crusaders and Seva Bhuana, we sterilized 8 dogs and 7 cats, and vaccinated 12 cats and dogs.

A heartfelt thank you to the doctors and team from Bali Pet Crusaders for their dedication and hard work. You are the true heroes!

This initiative is a collaboration with our friends at Mission Paws’ible, Seva Bhuana and Bali Pet Crusaders.

July 2024 - For the ninth consecutive year, we are thrilled to be named the #1 Waterpark in Asia by Tripadvisor's 2024 Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Awards, and #5 in the world! We are proud to be the only water park from Indonesia to top the list in Asia and the sole representative from Asia on the world list - this is a BIG achievement for us!

We are excited to be adding more reasons for kids to smile at the park this year! Three times the size of the current water playground, the new 1-hectare kids and family area will be a hub for exploration, discovery, and play.

Exciting new features

The centrepiece of the area is the new 15-meter-high water playground, adorned in lively bright blues, yellows and greens, boasting over 40 engaging features. Kids can enjoy five slides, climbing decks, interactive water blasters, jets, sprays, bowls, plus seven viewing domes for panoramic views of the fun below. And, of course, the iconic giant dump bucket returns and is ready to soak everyone! With additional splash zones and special play areas designed for toddlers, children of all ages will have an unforgettable experience.

Relaxation areas

With a view of all the splashing action, parents and caregivers can look forward to relaxing in the newly designed chill-out areas, near the playground. These grassy spaces will offer plenty of shade, perfect for taking a break while still keeping an eye on the little ones. The kids area will also feature new gazebos and group areas, ideal for birthdays and gatherings.

Dining and amenities

Within the revamped Kids zone, there will also be an open-air family restaurant with 120 seats and a range of food stations and cuisines to feed hungry bellies. The restaurant is designed by Ibuku and being built by bamboopure, constructed from eco-friendly bamboo and inspired by the natural environment. In addition, upgraded facilities will include lockers, toilets, showers, changing rooms, and a mini first aid center.

June 2024 - In Bali, the streets are crowded with an overwhelming number of stray dogs and cats. With no effective measures in place to control breeding, their numbers keep growing, leading to widespread issues like malnutrition, injuries, and diseases. This vicious cycle of overpopulation and health problems puts their welfare at risk.

Waterbom CEO Sayan Gulino is committed to addressing this issue that is close to his heart. With a goal to sterilize at least 100 cats and dogs in our local Kuta area, Sayan will be hosting ‘Tunes for Tails’, a 12-hour DJ marathon on Friday, June 21, 2024, from 12 PM to 12 AM at Waterbom. Through his love for music, he plans to showcase over 10 genres, marking it as his longest DJ set to date.

In partnership with Mission Paws’ible,  Seva Bhuana, and  Bali Pet Crusaders, we will use the collected donations to provide sterilization and vaccinations for stray cats and dogs around our park. We will also extend this assistance to pets owned by individuals who are unable to cover the costs of these vital treatments.

May 2024 - At Waterbom, we are focused on minimizing our environmental impact and becoming the world’s most sustainable waterpark. As part of our energy-reducing initiatives, we have installed solar panels to cut down our dependency on fossil fuel.

Since 2018, we have installed 452 solar panels across key areas of the park: our office, main lobby, and the roof of the Wantilan restaurant. With a capacity of 156 kWp, these panels generate up to 800 kWh per day, covering 6% of our electricity needs

These existing panels have led to the prevention of 175 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions within a year. And, our investment in solar technology has the potential to save approximately over $200,000 USD throughout the 30-year lifespan of the panels.

But we’re not stopping there! We have just installed an additional 213 solar panels in our new Oasis Gardens area. These new panels will increase our total to 665 units, which means we are now capable of supplying over 10% of the park's electricity requirements with renewable energy. The addition has the potential to eliminate up to 468 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

April 2024 - In our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we're constantly exploring innovative ways to minimize our environmental footprint, preserving resources for the future, and supporting organizations who share the same vision. Recognizing the importance of water, we're thrilled to share our latest initiative in celebration of World Water Day (Fri 22 March 2024).

This year, we've partnered with Terra Water, an award-winning producer of ceramic water filters. Their filters are designed to remove harmful bacteria and viruses from Bali's water sources, providing safe drinking water for everyone.

On World Water Day, we had the pleasure of hosting Terra Water at our park to showcase their latest enamel filters. Guests had the opportunity to experience these filters firsthand, learning about their effectiveness and impact on drinking water quality.

But our partnership with Terra Water goes beyond just showcasing their products. We're proud to join forces with Terra Water to bring safe drinking water to communities in need. To support this cause, we invited guests to donate any remaining balance on their splashband at the end of the day. The response was overwhelming, with many guests generously contributing to the initiative.

The donations collected were used to distribute Terra filters to families in the Songan area of Bali, where access to clean water is desperately needed. By providing these filters, we hope to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most.

As we reflect on World Water Day and our partnership with Terra Water, we're reminded of the power of collective action. Together, we can create a more sustainable future where everyone has access to clean, safe drinking water. Thank you to Terra Water and everyone who joined us in supporting this important cause!

From the park's first inception, our founder Santo Gulino embraced a sustainable mindset. He chose to build the water park within a lush green space, integrating the slides around the existing trees, rather than cutting them down. This ethos continued over the years, and in 2016, under the leadership of CEO Sayan Gulino, we enhanced and formalised our in-park sustainability program, 'Karmic Returns', following a strict set of initiatives including waste management, and water and energy conservation. Every action we take is aimed at reducing our ecological footprint, furthering our goal of becoming the world’s most sustainable waterpark.

We have now set a new ambitious target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2033, as part of our contribution to a low-carbon future

In 2023, we achieved a 95% recycling rate and effectively reduced our waste to landfill rate to only 6.7%, we've integrated sustainable practices into our operations and fostered a team culture that embraces the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana. This traditional philosophy promotes the harmonious coexistence of people, nature, and spirituality, and serves as a guiding principle in our company culture.

At our recent 30th anniversary celebration, our CEO Sayan Gulino, announced our pledge, “We will be upgrading our ambitions and targets, as Waterbom aims to be the first Asian tourism business and the first waterpark in the world to be net-zero by 2033. Our energy sources will be 100% renewable, and our business will also be removing more carbon from the atmosphere than we emit. Throughout this process, we will keep ourselves accountable and provide data and reports to the public to show transparency.”

So, what does it all mean? Achieving "net-zero emissions" means that the total amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere is equal to the total amount removed or offset, resulting in no additional carbon being added overall. For Waterbom, this means minimizing or eliminating the production of greenhouse gasses and other pollutants associated with our operations.

To achieve this, we are working together with environmental consultant Eco-Mantra to implement various strategies, including reduction, substitution, and mitigation. These efforts involve specific initiatives like enhancing water pump efficiency, adopting energy-efficient water heaters, transitioning from gas to electric kitchen appliances, procuring more sustainable consumables, boosting on-site renewable energy production (more solar panels installed), and purchase of carbon removal credits..

Our environmental program and results have resulted in the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) endorsement of our net-zero 2050 target, aligning our greenhouse gas reduction objectives with the global goals of the Paris Agreement. We are proud to be the only SBTi-approved tourism company in Indonesia, and have now adjusted that target to 2033 to push ourselves. 

In the first quarter of 2023, we achieved a 97% recycling rate and effectively reduced our waste to landfill rate to only 3.4%. We are also actively transitioning our staff transportation fleet to electric motorbikes, currently with a 14% adoption rate from our team. Our sustainability milestones were recognized by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) 2023 Gold Awards as the Grand Award recipient for Sustainability and Social Responsibility.

Waterbom Bali's journey to net zero is of high integrity and a showcase for responsible corporate climate action and a leader in the tourism industry.”

With rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and melting ice caps, the urgency of transitioning to a low-carbon future is critical, so that the world reaches net-zero no later than 2050.
