November 2023 - On this World Tree Day, we celebrate the important role of trees in our park and their significance in our community.

Trees serves as oxygen producers, countering the effects of climate change. At Waterbom Bali, they are the lifeblood and lungs of the park, providing essential shade during Bali’s hot weather and lowering the temperature in the park by at least 10 degrees celsius.

Earlier this year, during the construction of our Oasis Gardens expansion, our CEO, Sayan Gulino, accompanied by several members of our Waterbom team, traveled to Kediri, in East Java - a region renowned for its diverse tree species. Their mission was to select a range of large trees which would enrich the biodiversity of Oasis Gardens.

In Ngadiluwih Village, Sayan ( a self-proclaimed ‘nature boy’ who grew up in Bali) personally chose signature trees that would become centrepieces in the newly expanded area.

These special trees include:

  • Bodhi tree - the tree is a religious symbol in Buddhism as it’s central to the story of Buddha's enlightenment. It represents the ultimate state of peace and happiness found in the Nirvana

  • Frangipani tree - in Balinese culture, the frangipani flower with its five petals is believed to represent the five elements of the universe – earth, water, fire, air, and ether – symbolizing the interconnectedness of all living beings with the cosmos

  • Kapok tree - the Aztec, Maya and other pre-Columbian Mesoamerican cultures considers the Kapok, or the Ceiba, tree as sacred—a symbol that links heaven, earth, and the underworld

In addition to the signature trees, Sayan and the team also sourced other trees such as palm, caladium, baobab, moringa, monkey pod, sandalwood, calabash, and more.

These newly planted trees will add to Waterbom’s already lush landscape and tropical gardens and play an important role in the future biodiversity of the waterpark.
